AlmaLinux OS (alma, alma-linux) End of Life

AlmaLinux OS's life cycle matches RHEL's dates, and is identical to Rocky Linux: roughly five years of active support, with security support to ten years from release.

RHEL-compatible distributions have no paid extension. RHEL 8 can be extended to 2033 with the ELS add-on; AlmaLinux 8 ends completely on 31 May 2029. For deployments expected to exceed ten years, this difference drives the migration plan.

The project also states explicitly that each minor version reaches end of life when the next one is released — 8.9 ended when 8.10 shipped. RHEL offers EUS to stay on a specific minor release while still receiving updates; AlmaLinux does not. You must follow the latest minor version to keep receiving security updates.

Note that the first stable release in the 8 series was 8.3 (30 March 2021); 8.0 through 8.2 never existed, so the release date shown here is 8.3's.

Codenames (Purple Manul, Emerald Puma, Lavender Lion …) are assigned per minor version rather than per major release, unlike Rocky Linux where each major has one.
