Support policy

An Ubuntu LTS release receives five years of standard security maintenance. An Ubuntu Pro subscription extends security maintenance (ESM) to ten years, and a further Legacy add-on extends it to twelve years.

Notes

Ubuntu LTS support comes in three tiers: five years of standard security maintenance, ten years with Ubuntu Pro (ESM), and twelve years with the Legacy add-on. The "End of Life" column on this site shows the standard five-year date; the "Extended Support" column shows the ESM date.

ESM requires an Ubuntu Pro subscription. Ubuntu Pro is free for personal use on a limited number of machines, but commercial deployments need a paid subscription. Treating "Ubuntu is supported for ten years" as automatic will leave systems without updates once standard maintenance ends.

The Legacy add-on, which reaches twelve years, is not included in the table here; it is a further option on top of ESM with limited version coverage. For reference, 24.04 LTS carries a Legacy add-on date of May 2039.

Interim releases (24.10, 25.04 and so on) are not listed. They receive only nine months of support and should not be treated as equivalent to LTS for servers.

Canonical publishes these dates to month precision only, and this site preserves that.
